# Roadblocks

> Flag a task as a roadblock and it surfaces on dashboards and triggers attorney email alerts.

A **roadblock** is a task with the `isRoadblock` flag set. It's the same task model — just escalated visibility. Use roadblocks when something is genuinely **stalling case progress** and you want it on a partner's radar, not just your own to-do list.

## When to flag a roadblock

Use the roadblock flag for items that:

* Block stage progression on a case ("can't move to Demand without bills from Dr. Smith")
* Have a real deadline pressure (statute of limitations, court order, settlement window)
* Need attorney intervention because paralegal-level escalation isn't moving the needle
* Have already been worked once and didn't resolve — this is your second-pass escalation channel

Don't flag every task as a roadblock. The signal-to-noise ratio matters; if the dashboard card is always full, attorneys will tune it out.

## How to flag

When creating or editing a task, toggle the **Roadblock** switch. You'll see a brief confirmation that emphasizes the escalation effect — by design, so you don't toggle this casually.

You can also flag from the Tasks list: hover the task row, click the menu, choose **Flag as Roadblock**.

## What happens when you flag

Three things fire:

1. **Amber dashboard card.** The task appears in the Roadblocks card on every dashboard for users on this case (assigned attorney, supervising partner, firm admin). The card is amber-colored — visually distinct from the rest of the dashboard.
2. **Attorney email alert.** The assigned attorney on the linked journey gets an email within 60 seconds, with the task title, journey context, and a deep link.
3. **Activity log entry.** The journey activity feed records the roadblock flag with timestamp and user, so the history is auditable.

If the task is **floating** (no journey), only the dashboard card surfaces — no journey activity entry, no attorney email (there's no attorney to notify).

## Resolving a roadblock

Two ways:

1. **Complete the task.** Marking the task complete clears the roadblock automatically and posts a resolution entry to the activity feed.
2. **Unflag it.** If the task isn't done but is no longer blocking, toggle the Roadblock switch off. The task stays open; only the escalation visibility goes away.

## Reading the dashboard card

The card surfaces:

* Number of open roadblocks for cases on your plate
* Top three by age (oldest first — old roadblocks need attention)
* Click-through to the full filtered Tasks view of all your roadblocks
