# Litigation Tab

> Tracking suit-filed case progression — overview only; deep dive in the Medical, Damages & Settlement section.

The **Litigation** tab activates once a Journey moves into the [Litigation Avenue](/case-management/avenue-overview). It tracks everything that happens between filing suit and resolution — case caption, court info, key deadlines, discovery exchange, depositions, motions, and trial date.

## What's on the tab

* **Case caption** — plaintiff and defendant names as filed
* **Court** — jurisdiction, venue, judge
* **Case number** — the court's docket number, separate from your HoLaCe Journey number
* **Key dates** — answer due, discovery cutoff, dispositive motion deadlines, trial date
* **Pleadings list** — complaints, answers, discovery responses, motions, with file links
* **Depositions schedule** — scheduled and completed depositions

The tab pre-fills what it can from the Journey's existing data — defendant from [Contacts](/case-management/journey-tabs/contacts), plaintiff from the client info — and lets you fill in everything court-specific.

## What it doesn't replace

The Litigation tab is for tracking and surfacing — it's **not a docketing system**. Keep your dedicated docketing tool for calendar-of-record purposes; HoLaCe pulls in the dates that matter for case strategy and team awareness, not for compliance docketing.

## Where to go next

<Note>
  Deep dive: [Medical, Damages & Settlement → Litigation Workflow](/legal-workflow/litigation-tab) covers the full Litigation Avenue — discovery patterns, deposition prep, motion tracking, mediation prep, and trial readiness checks.
